Program overview
Our Functional Medicine and Musculoskeletal Health (FMMH) program differs from traditional Functional Medicine (FM) programs.
The Traditional Approach:
Analyze laboratory tests. Address biochemistry. Prescribe supplements and diet changes. Which is all reasonable. However, when you take into account that -
- Over two-thirds of the brain's cerebral cortex (processing area) is dedicated to a single task: mapping and executing movement.
- Up to 80% of all sensory signals entering the central nervous system are proprioceptive. Your brain is a movement computer.
- When movement patterns are dysfunctional, the data stream turns toxic. Bad input forces the brain into a perpetual, resource-draining survival state.
We take a different approach:
FMMH Approach: Assess movement. Correct dysfunctional movement patterns. Re-program the nervous system. Focus on the root cause. Free vital resources your patients need to achieve and maintain optimal health.

The CAHS Master’s in Functional Medicine and Musculoskeletal Health combines a continually updated, peer-reviewed, and rigorously researched evidence-based approach to the identification and treatment of dysfunctional movement patterns AND the evaluation / assessment and management of MSK upper extremity related problems.
This course utilizes combined content from Functional Movement Systems (FMS) Certification Programs designed by Gray Cook and Dr. Lee Burton AND from ProHealth Systems (PHS) Certification Programs designed by Dr. Nikita Vizniak.
This Master’s is best suited for regulated healthcare practitioners, whose scope of practice allows them to assess.
Anyone is welcome to take this Master’s program, however, you will not qualify for the FMS SFMA 1 or 2 Certifications Courses within the program AND you must apply the content within your scope of practice / licenses.
After successful completion of the Master’s content, you will also have earned 5 FMS and 3 PHS Professional Certifications.
This 60 ECTS Professional Master's program consists of content from:
- 1 Mandatory CAHS course
- 6 Core FMS courses
- 3 Elective PHS Lower Extremity Pathway Courses
Our FMMH Masters incorporates a LEARN & APPLY methodology requiring students to apply their newly learned skills by conducting patient / client evaluations and or critical appraisals of research.

All CAHS Masters Programs require you to complete our Evidence-based Health Care course.
There is an enormous amount of information, misinformation, poorly constructed and or poorly executed research studies related to healthcare. It can be extremely daunting to know which way to turn for accurate and relevant information.
This course will arm you with the critical thinking and appraisal skills necessary to identify, analyze, critique and effectively utilize evidenced-based research to further your healthcare practice.
This will be the first course you will complete in your program.
Core FMS Courses:
This course is built on an evidence-informed medicine (EIM) framework that bridges the gap between scientific research and frontline patient / client care.
You will then complete the 6 “Core Courses” in your program.

• Any healthcare professional (Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, Kinesiologist, Osteopath, Naturopath, Psychologist, Homeopath, Podiatrist, Chiropodist, Medical Doctor, Nurse, or Nurse Practitioner).
• Proof of healthcare designation and a university or college degree is required.
Credit Transfer
• Already completed a certification related to your Master's program? You may be eligible for credit transfer. We'll verify this with you during the application process.
• A maximum of 10 credits may be awarded at the discretion of our Admissions Team.
